This day-long online seminar on Saturday, September 19, 2020 will gather political scientists and theorists to explore critiques of liberalism from the left, right, and tensions from within the classical liberal movement. Topics may include how to understand illiberal movements on the right and left, the place of free markets within conservatism, the future of fusionism.
Participants can expect to deepen their knowledge and find community with other scholars who share their interest in and dedication to advancing the broader liberal tradition. This program is part of IHS’s Discourse Initiative, a series of written and in-person conversations aimed at drawing scholarly attention back to the liberal tradition. The Discourse Initiative supports a diverse community of scholars—left-of-center, classical liberal, and conservative scholars—who see the development of the grand tradition of liberalism as an intellectual adventure and the basis for the good society.
